Measure Pupillary Distance with our new Safe Distance PD – sold as a 40 pack.
The safe distance PD is a disposable Vernier PD ruler. Current pupillometers require the Optician and patient to have their faces within inches of each other which is undesirable because of Coronavirus risk. The safe distance PD allows the patient to align the red lines with their pupils while looking in a mirror and closing the opposite eye. They can then put it down and the Optician can measure the readings. This system is much easier to use than a regular PD ruler because the user does not have to simultaneously align the ruler with their eyes and read the measurement at the same time. It is much easier to align the pupils with the gauge and then read the measurement seperately.
We have made this out of disposable paperboard to minimize the risk of fomite transmission. We recommend that the Optician handle the Safe Distance PD with a paper towel or gloves to minimize the risk of creating a fomite for the patient. After the patient sets it down on the counter and it is read by the Optician – the Optician can pick it up with gloves or a paper towel and throw it away. This system should be reasonably accurate. It will not be as accurate as a standard pupillometer.
